CBD oil Florida

Cannabidiol (CBD) and products containing CBD are gaining a lot of interest across America and globally. Due to the controversial nature of the cannabis plant and the newness of the CBD industry, there’s some confusion around the legality of buying and supplementing CBD. This article explores CBD oil in Florida specifically. We will cover what makes a CBD product legal and accessible, how to determine whether a medical marijuana card is required and where to buy CBD products in Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and Miami.

Is CBD oil legal in Florida?

As of 2018, if CBD oil is extracted from hemp, a legally grown crop, it is legal to purchase and consume CBD oil in Florida and all 50 American states without any medical card or permission.

‘Hemp-derived CBD oil’ means that the oil was extracted from hemp, a species of cannabis plant, which contains under 0.3% THC (the chemical responsible for marijuana’s high).

Medicinal marijuana use was legalised in Florida in 2016, making products that contain THC accessible to those who qualify. CBD derived from cannabis strains other than hemp – meaning that they can contain more than 0.3% THC – require a medical marijuana card issued by the Medical Marijuana Use Registry.

Vaping CBD oil in Florida

Vaporizing or vaping has become a popular method for dosing CBD. Vaping bypasses the digestion process, meaning that the CBD is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. As a result, more CBD is accessible to your body and it takes effect faster.

Just like CBD oil, a premade CBD vape juice or cartridge that is hemp-derived (under 0.3% THC) is legal to buy and use without a Medical Marijuana card in Florida. If the vape juice or cartridge contains THC, a Medical Marijuana card is required.

Another option for vapers is adding CBD isolate (CBD in its most pure form) to the vape juice they would usually use. CBD isolate is completely legal in Florida as it contains 0% THC, making it an option for those who are required to take drug tests. The isolate is solid and looks like white crystals. If you use a sensitive kitchen scale you can measure very precise dosages of CBD.

What is CBD isolate and how to use it

CBD isolate

CBD isolate (crystal, slab or shatter) is the most pure form of CBD you can buy. CBD isolate benefits include being THC free, cheaper & able to be used to make DIY CBD products.

Where to find CBD doctors in Florida

Getting a medicinal marijuana card in Florida

Medical marijuana was approved in Florida by 71% of voters in 2016. Under the legislation, individuals with debilitating conditions, as determined by a licensed state physician, are able to take marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The following steps outline the process of getting a medicinal marijuana card in Florida:

  1. Seek treatment from a qualified physician
  2. Physician submits the patient’s information and product order to the Medical Marijuana Use Registry. Included in the information they send is your email address, which you will use to log into Medical Marijuana Use Registry
  3. The patient (or their legal representative) applies for a Compassionate Use Registry Identification Card. The current processing time for the card is 30 days, then 3-5 days for delivery
  4. Applications cost $75 and may be submitted online through the Medical Marijuana Use Registry. Alternatively they may be mailed to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use once your physician submits your information
  5. Once approved, the patient (or legal representative) can contact one of the licensed medical marijuana treatment centres below to fill the order. These treatment centres are able to deliver medical marijuana products

Medicinal marijuana notes & restrictions:

  • In Florida, it’s prohibited to smoke medicinal marijuana. Other methods, including vaping, edibles, tinctures and topicals are used to dose
  • Compassionate Use Registry Identification Card must be renewed annually and costs $75
  • It’s illegal to share a supply of medicinal marijuana
  • It’s illegal to grow your own cannabis in Florida. Only licensed organisations are permitted to grow and dispense marijuana

Low‐THC cannabis

Another option in Florida is Low-THC cannabis and products. This category includes products containing less than 0.8% THC and more than 10% CBD weight for weight. These products also require a medical marijuana card obtained by the process described above.
